Cookie Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026. This policy lists the storage the website actually uses. It does not describe vendors that are not on the pages.
What Cookies Are
A cookie is a small piece of data a website asks your browser to keep and send back later. Similar technologies include localStorage, which stays in the browser and is not automatically attached to every server request. People often use the word “cookie” for both, so this policy covers the local notice preference even though it is stored with localStorage rather than as an HTTP cookie.
Cookies can be essential, functional, analytical, or advertising. The distinction matters because a banner should not claim to control tools that are not present. On The Hidden Door, the banner controls one preference about the banner itself.
Cookies Actually Used
After you choose Accept, Reject, or Save preferences, the script writes a single localStorage item. Nothing else is written by the site’s script. The inquiry form does not save your message in localStorage or in a cookie.
| Name | Type | Purpose | How long it stays |
|---|---|---|---|
| thd_cookie_choice | localStorage key on this site | Remembers whether you accepted the notice or rejected optional storage, so the banner can stay closed. | Until you change the choice on this page or clear site data for this browser. |
The value is the word “accepted” or the word “rejected.” It does not contain your name, your inquiry text, or an advertising identifier. The website does not read the value back on a server.
Essential Cookies
Remembering the banner choice is essential to the notice itself. If the site forgot every refusal, the banner would return on each page and the Reject button would not stick. The key is therefore the minimum record needed for the control you clicked to keep working in that browser.
There is no separate session cookie for a shopping cart, a login, or a booking. Those features are not part of the site. If a host adds its own technical cookie outside these files, that cookie is not documented here and should not be assumed. The owner would need to name it before this policy could list it.
Functional Cookies
The notice preference is the only functional storage. It changes one thing: whether the banner is hidden. It does not remember a room, a date, a language, or a group size. Closing the mobile menu or opening an FAQ answer is handled in the page while you are looking at it and is not written to storage.
Copying inquiry notes uses the browser clipboard if you press Copy notes. That is not a cookie. The site does not keep a functional profile of which concepts you viewed.
Analytics Cookies
Analytics cookies are not used. The pages do not load Google Analytics, another measurement script, or a tag that records a path through the site for the operator. There is no dashboard of visits built into this project.
Because no analytics cookie is set, the Accept button does not switch measurement on, and the Reject button does not switch measurement off. Both buttons only record the banner choice described above. If analytics are added later, this section and the banner must be changed first so the buttons match the new tools.
Advertising Cookies
Advertising cookies are not used. The site does not load an ads pixel, a remarketing tag, or a social plugin that sets an advertising identifier. Accepting the notice does not opt you in to personalized ads, because no such ads are served by these pages.
The website may still be reached from an advertisement placed somewhere else. That outside ad would be governed by the advertiser and the site that showed it. Landing on The Hidden Door does not continue that advertiser’s cookie through a pixel on this domain.
Third-Party Technologies
Fonts, style sheets, scripts, and images are loaded from this website’s own files. The pages do not embed YouTube, maps, payment buttons, or chat widgets. No third-party cookie vendor is appointed by the current code.
A hosting company that serves the files may process connection data under its own systems. That is described in the Privacy Policy as an unconfirmed hosting detail, not as a named cookie partner. This policy will not list a vendor until the operator confirms that the vendor is actually in use.
Consent and Preferences
The banner offers three actions, and each one does what it says. Accept stores “accepted” and hides the banner. Reject stores “rejected” and hides the banner. Preferences opens a short panel where you can choose one of those two values and press Save preferences. Saving writes the selected value and hides the banner.
You can change the stored choice at any time with the controls below. They use the same script as the banner. The status line reports the value now kept in this browser. Clearing site data removes the key entirely, after which the banner can show again.
Browser Controls
Browsers let you block cookies, delete site data, and use a private window. Blocking HTTP cookies would not, by itself, remove the localStorage key, because it is a different store. To remove the notice preference, clear site data or local storage for this website, or use the buttons on this page to overwrite the value.
Private browsing often discards the key when the session ends. That is why the banner may return in a private window even after you made a choice in a normal window. The site cannot see those browser settings, and it does not try to work around them.
Updates
This policy should be updated before any new cookie or similar technology is added, including analytics, advertising, embedded media, or a booking tool that sets its own cookie. The date at the top is the date of this version. A banner that mentions tools the policy does not list would be out of date and should not be left in place.
Reading an updated policy does not create a booking and does not subscribe you to messages. The only change a button on this page makes is the local key described in the table.
Contact
Cookie questions that require a person can be sent to [email protected], by phone on +61 2 9553 2111, or by post to Shop 2A, 546 King Street, Newtown NSW 2042, Australia. The Contact form delivers that request only if you send the email draft. This website does not store it.
For the preference itself, you do not need a mailbox. The buttons on this page change or restate the choice in your browser, and the status text tells you what was saved. Related details about inquiries and technical logs are in the Privacy Policy.
